1 C uando salgas a la batalla contra tus enemigos y veas caballos y carros, y pueblo más numeroso que tú, no tengas temor de ellos; porque el Señor tu Dios que te sacó de la tierra de Egipto está contigo.

When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the Lord thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

2 Y sucederá que cuando os acerquéis a la batalla, el sacerdote se llegará y hablará al pueblo,

And it shall be, when ye are come nigh unto the battle, that the priest shall approach and speak unto the people,

3 y les dirá: “Oye, Israel, hoy os acercáis a la batalla contra vuestros enemigos; no desmaye vuestro corazón; no temáis ni os alarméis, ni os aterroricéis delante de ellos,

and shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them;

4 p orque el Señor vuestro Dios es el que va con vosotros, para pelear por vosotros contra vuestros enemigos, para salvaros.”

for the Lord your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

5 Y los oficiales hablarán al pueblo, diciendo: “¿Quién es el hombre que ha edificado una casa nueva y no la ha estrenado ? Que salga y regrese a su casa, no sea que muera en la batalla y otro la estrene.

And the officers shall speak unto the people, saying, What man is there that hath built a new house, and hath not dedicated it? let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man dedicate it.

6 “ ¿Quién es el hombre que ha plantado una viña y no ha tomado aún de su fruto ? Que salga y regrese a su casa, no sea que muera en la batalla y otro goce de su fruto.

And what man is he that hath planted a vineyard, and hath not yet eaten of it? let him also go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man eat of it.

7 “ ¿Y quién es el hombre que está comprometido con una mujer y no se ha casado ? Que salga y regrese a su casa, no sea que muera en la batalla y otro se case con ella.”

And what man is there that hath betrothed a wife, and hath not taken her? let him go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man take her.

8 E ntonces los oficiales hablarán otra vez al pueblo, y dirán: “¿Quién es hombre medroso y de corazón apocado? Que salga y regrese a su casa para que no haga desfallecer el corazón de sus hermanos como desfallece el corazón suyo.”

And the officers shall speak further unto the people, and they shall say, What man is there that is fearful and fainthearted? let him go and return unto his house, lest his brethren’s heart faint as well as his heart.

9 Y sucederá que cuando los oficiales acaben de hablar al pueblo, nombrarán capitanes de tropas a la cabeza del pueblo.

And it shall be, when the officers have made an end of speaking unto the people, that they shall make captains of the armies to lead the people.

10 C uando te acerques a una ciudad para pelear contra ella, le ofrecerás primero la paz.

When thou comest nigh unto a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace unto it.

11 Y sucederá que si ella está de acuerdo en hacer la paz contigo y te abre sus puertas, entonces todo el pueblo que se encuentra en ella estará sujeto a ti para trabajos forzados y te servirá.

And it shall be, if it make thee answer of peace, and open unto thee, then it shall be, that all the people that is found therein shall be tributaries unto thee, and they shall serve thee.

12 S in embargo, si no hace la paz contigo, sino que emprende la guerra contra ti, entonces la sitiarás.

And if it will make no peace with thee, but will make war against thee, then thou shalt besiege it:

13 C uando el Señor tu Dios la entregue en tu mano, herirás a filo de espada a todos sus hombres.

and when the Lord thy God hath delivered it into thine hands, thou shalt smite every male thereof with the edge of the sword:

14 S ólo las mujeres y los niños, los animales y todo lo que haya en la ciudad, todos sus despojos, tomarás para ti como botín. Comerás del botín de tus enemigos, que el Señor tu Dios te ha dado.

but the women, and the little ones, and the cattle, and all that is in the city, even all the spoil thereof, shalt thou take unto thyself; and thou shalt eat the spoil of thine enemies, which the Lord thy God hath given thee.

15 A sí harás a todas las ciudades que están muy lejos de ti, que no sean de las ciudades de estas naciones cercanas.

Thus shalt thou do unto all the cities which are very far off from thee, which are not of the cities of these nations.

16 P ero en las ciudades de estos pueblos que el Señor tu Dios te da en heredad, no dejarás con vida nada que respire,

But of the cities of these people, which the Lord thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth:

17 s ino que los destruirás por completo: a los hititas, amorreos, cananeos, ferezeos, heveos y jebuseos, tal como el Señor tu Dios te ha mandado,

but thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee:

18 p ara que ellos no os enseñen a imitar todas las abominaciones que ellos han hecho con sus dioses y no pequéis contra el Señor vuestro Dios.

that they teach you not to do after all their abominations, which they have done unto their gods; so should ye sin against the Lord your God.

19 C uando sities una ciudad por muchos días, peleando contra ella para tomarla, no destruirás sus árboles metiendo el hacha contra ellos; no los talarás, pues de ellos puedes comer. Porque, ¿es acaso el árbol del campo un hombre para que le pongas sitio?

When thou shalt besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by forcing an axe against them: for thou mayest eat of them, and thou shalt not cut them down (for the tree of the field is man’s life ) to employ them in the siege:

20 S ólo los árboles que sabes que no dan fruto podrás destruir y talar, para construir máquinas de sitio contra la ciudad que está en guerra contigo, hasta que caiga.

only the trees which thou knowest that they be not trees for meat, thou shalt destroy and cut them down; and thou shalt build bulwarks against the city that maketh war with thee, until it be subdued.
