1 P aul and Timothy, bondservants of Jesus Christ, To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:
Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:
2 G race to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Thankfulness and Prayer
Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
3 I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,
I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,
4 a lways in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy,
Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy,
5 f or your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now,
For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now;
6 b eing confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;
Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
7 j ust as it is right for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as both in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers with me of grace.
Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace.
8 F or God is my witness, how greatly I long for you all with the affection of Jesus Christ.
For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ.
9 A nd this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment,
And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;
10 t hat you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ,
That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ.
11 b eing filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. Christ Is Preached
Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.
12 B ut I want you to know, brethren, that the things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel,
But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel;
13 s o that it has become evident to the whole palace guard, and to all the rest, that my chains are in Christ;
So that my bonds in Christ are manifest in all the palace, and in all other places;
14 a nd most of the brethren in the Lord, having become confident by my chains, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.
And many of the brethren in the Lord, waxing confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.
15 S ome indeed preach Christ even from envy and strife, and some also from goodwill:
Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:
16 T he former preach Christ from selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my chains;
The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds:
17 b ut the latter out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel.
But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.
18 W hat then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is preached; and in this I rejoice, yes, and will rejoice. To Live Is Christ
What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.
19 F or I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,
For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,
20 a ccording to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death.
According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.
21 F or to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
22 B ut if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from my labor; yet what I shall choose I cannot tell.
But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not.
23 F or I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better.
For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:
24 N evertheless to remain in the flesh is more needful for you.
Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you.
25 A nd being confident of this, I know that I shall remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy of faith,
And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith;
26 t hat your rejoicing for me may be more abundant in Jesus Christ by my coming to you again. Striving and Suffering for Christ
That your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again.
27 O nly let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel,
Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;
28 a nd not in any way terrified by your adversaries, which is to them a proof of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that from God.
And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God.
29 F or to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake,
For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;
30 h aving the same conflict which you saw in me and now hear is in me.
Having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me.
