1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

Therefore I urge you, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service.

2 A nd be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God.

3 F or I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

For I say, through the grace that was given me, to every man who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think reasonably, as God has apportioned to each person a measure of faith.

4 F or as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:

For even as we have many members in one body, and all the members don’t have the same function,

5 s o we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.

6 H aving then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;

Having gifts differing according to the grace that was given to us, if prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of our faith;

7 o r ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;

or service, let us give ourselves to service; or he who teaches, to his teaching;

8 o r he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.

or he who exhorts, to his exhorting: he who gives, let him do it with liberality; he who rules, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

9 L et love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.

Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor that which is evil. Cling to that which is good.

10 B e kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;

In love of the brothers be tenderly affectionate to one another; in honor preferring one another;

11 n ot slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;

not lagging in diligence; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;

12 r ejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;

rejoicing in hope; enduring in troubles; continuing steadfastly in prayer;

13 d istributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.

contributing to the needs of the saints; given to hospitality.

14 B less them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.

Bless those who persecute you; bless, and don’t curse.

15 R ejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.

Rejoice with those who rejoice. Weep with those who weep.

16 B e of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.

Be of the same mind one toward another. Don’t set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Don’t be wise in your own conceits.

17 R ecompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.

Repay no one evil for evil. Respect what is honorable in the sight of all men.

18 I f it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men.

19 D early beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, “Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.”

20 T herefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing so, you will heap coals of fire on his head.”

21 B e not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

Don’t be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
