1 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;

I command you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at his appearing and his Kingdom:

2 p reach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

3 F or the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

For the time will come when they will not listen to the sound doctrine, but, having itching ears, will heap up for themselves teachers after their own lusts;

4 a nd they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

5 B ut watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

But you be sober in all things, suffer hardship, do the work of an evangelist, and fulfill your ministry.

6 F or I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.

For I am already being offered, and the time of my departure has come.

7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

8 h enceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

From now on, there is stored up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give to me on that day; and not to me only, but also to all those who have loved his appearing.

9 D o thy diligence to come shortly unto me:

10 f or Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.

for Demas left me, having loved this present world, and went to Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia.

11 O nly Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry.

Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with you, for he is useful to me for service.

12 A nd Tychicus have I sent to Ephesus.

But I sent Tychicus to Ephesus.

13 T he cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, but especially the parchments.

Bring the cloak that I left at Troas with Carpus when you come, and the books, especially the parchments.

14 A lexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works:

Alexander, the coppersmith, did much evil to me. The Lord will repay him according to his deeds,

15 o f whom be thou ware also; for he hath greatly withstood our words.

of whom you also must beware; for he greatly opposed our words.

16 A t my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge.

At my first defense, no one came to help me, but all left me. May it not be held against them.

17 N otwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.

But the Lord stood by me, and strengthened me, that through me the message might be fully proclaimed, and that all the Gentiles might hear; and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.

18 A nd the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me for his heavenly Kingdom; to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

19 S alute Prisca and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus.

20 E rastus abode at Corinth: but Trophimus have I left at Miletum sick.

Erastus remained at Corinth, but I left Trophimus at Miletus sick.

21 D o thy diligence to come before winter. Eubulus greeteth thee, and Pudens, and Linus, and Claudia, and all the brethren.

Be diligent to come before winter. Eubulus salutes you, as do Pudens, Linus, Claudia, and all the brothers.

22 T he Lord Jesus Christ be with thy spirit. Grace be with you. Amen. The second epistle unto Timotheus, ordained the first bishop of the church of the Ephesians, was written from Rome, when Paul was brought before Nero the second time.

The Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Grace be with you. Amen.
