1 B ut this know, that in last days difficult times shall be there;

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

2 f or men shall be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, evil speakers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, profane,

For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

3 w ithout natural affection, implacable, slanderers, of unsubdued passions, savage, having no love for what is good,

Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

4 t raitors, headlong, of vain pretensions, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God;

Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

5 h aving a form of piety but denying the power of it: and from these turn away.

Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

6 F or of these are they who are getting into houses, and leading captive silly women, laden with sins, led by various lusts,

For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,

7 a lways learning, and never able to come to knowledge of truth.

Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

8 N ow in the same manner in which Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, thus these also withstand the truth; men corrupted in mind, found worthless as regards the faith.

Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

9 B ut they shall not advance farther; for their folly shall be completely manifest to all, as that of those also became.

But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as their's also was.

10 B ut thou hast been thoroughly acquainted with my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, endurance,

But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,

11 p ersecutions, sufferings: what happened to me in Antioch, in Iconium, in Lystra; what persecutions I endured; and the Lord delivered me out of all.

Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.

12 A nd all indeed who desire to live piously in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.

Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

13 B ut wicked men and juggling impostors shall advance in evil, leading and being led astray.

But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

14 B ut thou, abide in those things which thou hast learned, and thou hast been fully persuaded, knowing of whom thou hast learned;

But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

15 a nd that from a child thou hast known the sacred letters, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation, through faith which in Christ Jesus.

And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

16 E very scripture divinely inspired, and profitable for teaching, for conviction, for correction, for instruction in righteousness;

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

17 t hat the man of God may be complete, fully fitted to every good work.

That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
