1 B ut concerning spiritual, brethren, I do not wish you to be ignorant.
Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
2 Y e know that when ye were nations led away to dumb idols, in whatever way ye might be led.
Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.
3 I give you therefore to know, that no one, speaking in Spirit of God, says, Curse Jesus; and no one can say, Lord Jesus, unless in Holy Spirit.
Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.
4 B ut there are distinctions of gifts, but the same Spirit;
Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
5 a nd there are distinctions of services, and the same Lord;
And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
6 a nd there are distinctions of operations, but the same God who operates all things in all.
And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
7 B ut to each the manifestation of the Spirit is given for profit.
But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
8 F or to one, by the Spirit, is given word of wisdom; and to another word of knowledge, according to the same Spirit;
For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
9 a nd to a different one faith, in the same Spirit; and to another gifts of healing in the same Spirit;
To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
10 a nd to another operations of miracles; and to another prophecy; and to another discerning of spirits; and to a different one kinds of tongues; and to another interpretation of tongues.
To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
11 B ut all these things operates the one and the same Spirit, dividing to each in particular according as he pleases.
But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
12 F or even as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of the body, being many, are one body, so also the Christ.
For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
13 F or also in one Spirit we have all been baptised into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bondmen or free, and have all been given to drink of one Spirit.
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
14 F or also the body is not one member but many.
For the body is not one member, but many.
15 I f the foot say, Because I am not a hand I am not of the body, is it on account of this not indeed of the body?
If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
16 A nd if the ear say, Because I am not an eye I am not of the body, is it on account of this not indeed of the body?
And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
17 I f the whole body an eye, where the hearing? if all hearing, where the smelling?
If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?
18 B ut now God has set the members, each one of them in the body, according as it has pleased.
But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.
19 B ut if all were one member, where the body?
And if they were all one member, where were the body?
20 B ut now the members many, and the body one.
But now are they many members, yet but one body.
21 T he eye cannot say to the hand, I have not need of thee; or again, the head to the feet, I have not need of you.
And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.
22 B ut much rather, the members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary;
Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:
23 a nd those of the body which we esteem to be the more void of honour, these we clothe with more abundant honour; and our uncomely have more abundant comeliness;
And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.
24 b ut our comely have not need. But God has tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that lacked;
For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked.
25 t hat there might be no division in the body, but that the members might have the same concern one for another.
That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.
26 A nd if one member suffer, all the members suffer with; and if one member be glorified, all the members rejoice with.
And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.
27 N ow ye are Christ's body, and members in particular.
Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.
28 A nd God has set certain in the assembly: first, apostles; secondly, prophets; thirdly, teachers; then miraculous powers; then gifts of healings; helps; governments; kinds of tongues.
And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.
29 a ll apostles? all prophets? all teachers? all miraculous powers?
Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?
30 h ave all gifts of healings? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
31 B ut desire earnestly the greater gifts, and yet shew I unto you a way of more surpassing excellence.
But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.
