1 T o the Overseer. -- By David. In Jehovah I trusted, how say ye to my soul, `They moved Thy mountain for the bird?

In the Lord put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain?

2 F or lo, the wicked tread a bow, They have prepared their arrow on the string, To shoot in darkness at the upright in heart.

For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart.

3 W hen the foundations are destroyed, The righteous -- what hath he done?

If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?

4 ` Jehovah in his holy temple: Jehovah -- in the heavens His throne. His eyes see -- His eyelids try the sons of men.

The Lord is in his holy temple, the Lord’s throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men.

5 J ehovah the righteous doth try. And the wicked and the lover of violence, Hath His soul hated,

The Lord trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.

6 H e poureth on the wicked snares, fire, and brimstone, And a horrible wind the portion of their cup.

Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.

7 F or righteous Jehovah, Righteousness He hath loved, The upright doth His countenance see!'

For the righteous Lord loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright.
