1 إ نْ كُنْتُ أتَكَلَّمُ بِلُغاتِ البَشَرِ وَالمَلائِكَةِ، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَدَيَّ مَحَبَّةٌ، أكُونُ مِثلَ جَرَسٍ مُزعِجٍ أوْ صَنجٍ مُنَفِّرٍ.

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

2 و َإنْ كانَتْ لِي مَوهِبَةُ النُّبُوَّةِ، وَكُنتُ أعرِفُ كُلَّ الأسرارِ وَكُلَّ مَعرِفَةٍ، وَكانَ لِي الإيمانُ الكافِي لِأُحَرِّكَ الجِبالَ، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَدَيَّ مَحَبَّةٌ، فَأنا لا شَيءَ.

And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

3 و َإنْ كُنتُ أتَصَدَّقُ بِكُلِّ ما أملِكُ لإطعامِ المُحتاجِينَ، وَإنْ ضَحَّيتُ بِجَسَدِي إلَىْ حَدِّ الافْتِخارِ، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَدَيَّ مَحَبَّةٌ، فَلا أستَفِيدُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ شَيئاً.

And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

4 ا لمَحَبَّةُ تَصبِرُ. المَحَبَّةُ تُشفِقُ. المَحَبَّةُ لا تَحسِدُ. المَحَبَّةُ لا تَتَباهَى. المَحَبَّةُ لا تَنتَفِخُ بِالكِبرِياءِ،

Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

5 و َلا تَتَصَرَّفُ دُونَ لَياقَةٍ. المَحَبَّةُ لا تَسعَى إلَى تَحقِيقِ غاياتِها الشَّخصِيَّةِ. المَحَبَّةُ لَيسَتْ سَرِيعَةَ الاهتِياجِ، وَلا تَحفَظُ سِجِلّاً لِلإساءاتِ.

doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;

6 ا لمَحَبَّةُ لا تَفرَحُ بِالشَّرِّ، بَلْ تَفرَحُ بِالحَقِّ.

rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

7 ا لمَحَبَّةُ تَحمِي دائِماً، وَتُؤمِنُ دائِماً، وَتَرجُو دائِماً، وَتَحتَمِلُ دائِماً.

beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

8 ا لمَحَبَّةُ لا تَمُوتُ. أمّا مَواهِبُ النُّبُوَّةِ، فَسَتُوضَعُ جانِباً، وَمَواهِبُ التَّكَلُّمِ بِلُغاتٍ أُخْرَى، سَتَتَوَقَّفُ. وَمَوهِبَةُ المَعرِفَةِ سَتُوضَعُ جانِباً.

Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

9 ف َمَعرِفَتُنا الآنَ جُزئِيَّةٌ، وَنُبُوَّاتُنا جُزئِيَّةٌ.

For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.

10 ل َكِنْ حِينَ يَأْتِي الكامِلُ، سَيُلغَى ما هُوَ جُزئِيٌّ.

But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

11 ع ِنْدَما كُنتُ طِفلاً، كُنتُ أتَكَلَّمُ كَطِفلٍ، وَأُفَكِّرُ كَطِفلٍ، وَأفهَمُ كَطِفلٍ. أمّا الآنَ، وَقَدْ صِرتُ رَجُلاً ناضِجاً، فَقَدِ انتَهَيتُ مِنْ طُرُقِ الطُّفُولَةِ.

When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

12 ف َنَحنُ الآنَ نَرَى انعِكاساً باهِتاً فِي مِرآةٍ، لَكِنْ عِندَما يَأْتِي الكامِلُ، سَنَرَى وَجهاً لِوَجهٍ. الآنَ مَعرِفَتِي جُزئِيَّةٌ، لَكِنْ حِينَئِذٍ سَأعرِفُ كَما يَعرِفُنِي اللهُ.

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

13 أ مّا الآنَ، فَلتَثبُتْ هَذِهِ الأُمُورُ الثَّلاثَةُ: الإيمانُ وَالرَّجاءُ وَالمَحَبَّةُ، لَكِنَّ أعظَمَها المَحَبَّةُ.

And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
