¶ Therefore, brethren, saints, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus,
w ho was faithful to him that appointed him over all his house, as also Moses was faithful.
F or this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who has built the house has more honour than the house.
F or every house is built by someone, but he that created all things is God.
A nd Moses verily was faithful over all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after,
b ut Christ as a son over his own house, which house we are, if we hold fast the confidence and the glorious hope firmly until the end.
¶ Therefore, as the Holy Spirit saith, Today if ye will hear his voice,
h arden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:
W here your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.
T herefore, I was indignant with that generation and said, They do always err from their heart, and they have not known my ways.
S o I swore in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.
T ake heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unfaithfulness, to depart from the living God.
B ut exhort one another daily, while it is called Today, lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
F or we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast unto the end;
w hile it is said, Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.
F or some of those that came out of Egypt with Moses, when they had heard, did provoke; howbeit not all.
B ut with whom was he indignant forty years? Was it not with those that had sinned, whose carcasses fell in the wilderness?
A nd to whom he swore that they should not enter into his rest, but to those that disobeyed?
S o we see that they could not enter in because of their unbelief.
