1 A nd the apostles and brethren that were in Judæa heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.
And the apostles and the brethren who were in Judaea heard that the nations also had received the word of God;
2 A nd when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him,
and when Peter went up to Jerusalem, they of the circumcision contended with him,
3 s aying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them.
saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised and hast eaten with them.
4 B ut Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying,
But Peter began and set forth to them in order, saying,
5 I was in the city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, A certain vessel descend, as it had been a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came even to me:

6 u pon the which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
on which having fixed mine eyes, I considered, and saw the quadrupeds of the earth, and the wild beasts, and the creeping things, and the fowls of the heaven.
7 A nd I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter; slay and eat.
And I heard also a voice saying to me, Rise up, Peter, slay and eat.
8 B ut I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth.
And I said, In no wise, Lord, for common or unclean has never entered into my mouth.
9 B ut the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
And a voice answered the second time out of heaven, What God has cleansed, do not thou make common.
10 A nd this was done three times: and all were drawn up again into heaven.
And this took place thrice, and again all was drawn up into heaven;
11 A nd, behold, immediately there were three men already come unto the house where I was, sent from Cæsarea unto me.
and lo, immediately three men were at the house in which I was, sent to me from Caesarea.
12 A nd the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man’s house:
And the Spirit said to me to go with them, nothing doubting. And there went with me these six brethren also, and we entered into the house of the man,
13 a nd he shewed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter;
and he related to us how he had seen the angel in his house, standing and saying, Send to Joppa and fetch Simon, who is surnamed Peter,
14 w ho shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.
who shall speak words to thee whereby thou shalt be saved, thou and all thy house.
15 A nd as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.
And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them even as upon us also at the beginning.
16 T hen remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.
And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, John baptised with water, but ye shall be baptised with Holy Spirit.
17 F orasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?
If then God has given them the same gift as also to us when we had believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who indeed was I to be able to forbid God?
18 W hen they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.
And when they heard these things they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then indeed God has to the nations also granted repentance to life.
19 N ow they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but unto the Jews only.
They then who had been scattered abroad through the tribulation that took place on the occasion of Stephen, passed through to Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, speaking the word to no one but to Jews alone.
20 A nd some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus.
But there were certain of them, Cyprians and Cyrenians, who entering into Antioch spoke to the Greeks also, announcing the glad tidings of the Lord Jesus.
21 A nd the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.
And Lord's hand was with them, and a great number believed and turned to the Lord.
22 T hen tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch.
And the report concerning them reached the ears of the assembly which was in Jerusalem, and they sent out Barnabas to go through as far as Antioch:
23 W ho, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord.
who, having arrived and seeing the grace of God, rejoiced, and exhorted all with purpose of heart to abide with the Lord;
24 F or he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.
for he was a good man and full of Holy Spirit and of faith; and a large crowd were added to the Lord.
25 T hen departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul:
And he went away to Tarsus to seek out Saul.
26 a nd when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
And having found, he brought him to Antioch. And so it was with them that for a whole year they were gathered together in the assembly and taught a large crowd: and the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.
27 A nd in these days came prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch.
Now in these days prophets went down from Jerusalem to Antioch;
28 A nd there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Cæsar.
and one from among them, by name Agabus, rose up and signified by the Spirit that there was going to be a great famine over all the inhabited earth, which also came to pass under Claudius.
29 T hen the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judæa:
And they determined, according as any one of the disciples was well off, each of them to send to the brethren who dwelt in Judaea, to minister;
30 w hich also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.
which also they did, sending it to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.
