1 I n the going out of Israel from Egypt, The house of Jacob from a strange people,

When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language;

2 J udah became His sanctuary, Israel his dominion.

Judah was his sanctuary, and Israel his dominion.

3 T he sea hath seen, and fleeth, The Jordan turneth backward.

The sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was driven back.

4 T he mountains have skipped as rams, Heights as sons of a flock.

The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs.

5 W hat -- to thee, O sea, that thou fleest? O Jordan, thou turnest back!

What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest? thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back?

6 O mountains, ye skip as rams! O heights, as sons of a flock!

Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams; and ye little hills, like lambs?

7 F rom before the Lord be afraid, O earth, From before the God of Jacob,

Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob;

8 H e is turning the rock to a pool of waters, The flint to a fountain of waters!

Which turned the rock into a standing water, the flint into a fountain of waters.
