1 T hen answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,

Sô-pha, người Na -a-ma, đáp lại, mà rằng:

2 S hould not the multitude of words be answered? and should a man full of talk be justified?

Há chẳng nên đáp lại lời nói nhiều sao? Người già miệng há sẽ được xưng là công bình ư?

3 S hould thy lies make men hold their peace? and when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed?

Chớ thì các lời khoe khoang của ông khiến người ta nín sao? Khi ông nhạo báng, há không có ai bỉ mặt ông ư?

4 F or thou hast said, My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in thine eyes.

Vì ông thưa cùng Đức Chúa Trời rằng: Đạo lý tôi là thanh tịnh; Tôi không nhơ bợn trước mặt Chúa.

5 B ut oh that God would speak, and open his lips against thee;

À! Chớ gì đẹp lòng Đức Chúa Trời mà phán, Và mở miệng Ngài đáp lời nghịch cùng ông,

6 A nd that he would shew thee the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacteth of thee less than thine iniquity deserveth.

Ước chi Ngài chỉ tỏ cho ông biết sự bí mật của sự khôn ngoan! Vì Ngài thông hiểu bội phần. Vậy, khá biết rằng Đức Chúa Trời phạt ông lại không xứng với tội gian ác của ông.

7 C anst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?

Nếu ông dò xét, há có thể hiểu biết được sự mầu nhiệm của Đức Chúa Trời, Và thấu rõ Đấng Toàn năng sao?

8 I t is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know?

Sự ấy vốn cao bằng các từng trời: Vậy ông sẽ làm gì? Sâu hơn âm phủ: ông hiểu biết sao đặng?

9 T he measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.

Bề dài sự ấy lại hơn cỡ trái đất, Và rộng lớn hơn biển cả.

10 I f he cut off, and shut up, or gather together, then who can hinder him?

Nếu Đức Chúa Trời đi ngang qua, bắt người ta cầm tù, Và đòi ứng hầu đoán xét, thì ai sẽ ngăn trở Ngài được?

11 F or he knoweth vain men: he seeth wickedness also; will he not then consider it?

Vì Ngài biết những người giả hình, Xem thấy tội ác mà loài người không cảm biết đến.

12 F or vain men would be wise, though man be born like a wild ass's colt.

Nhưng chừng nào lừa con rừng sanh ra làm người, Thì chừng nấy người hư không mới trở nên thông sáng!

13 I f thou prepare thine heart, and stretch out thine hands toward him;

Vậy, nếu dọn lòng cho xứng đáng, Và giơ tay mình ra hướng về Chúa;

14 I f iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles.

Bằng có tội ác trong tay ông, mà ông bỏ xa khỏi mình, Chẳng để sự bất công ở trong trại mình,

15 F or then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; yea, thou shalt be stedfast, and shalt not fear:

Bấy giờ, ông hẳn sẽ ngước mắt lên không tì vít gì, Thật sẽ được vững vàng, chẳng sợ chi;

16 B ecause thou shalt forget thy misery, and remember it as waters that pass away:

17 A nd thine age shall be clearer than the noonday: thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning.

Đời ông sẽ sáng sủa hơn ban trưa; Dẫu nay tối tăm, sau sẽ hóa ra như buổi sáng.

18 A nd thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety.

19 A lso thou shalt lie down, and none shall make thee afraid; yea, many shall make suit unto thee.

Lại ông sẽ nằm, không ai làm cho mình sợ hãi, Và lắm người sẽ tìm ơn của ông.

20 B ut the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as the giving up of the ghost.

Nhưng kẻ hung ác sẽ bị hao mòn; Nó chẳng có nơi ẩn núp, Và điều nó sẽ trông mong, ấy là sự tắt hơi.
