And after Abimelech there arose to defend Israel Tola the son of Puah, the son of Dodo, a man of Issachar; and he dwelt in Shamir in mount Ephraim.

2 l àm quan xét trong Y-sơ-ra-ên hai mươi ba năm; rồi thác và được chôn tại Sa-mia.

And he judged Israel twenty and three years, and died, and was buried in Shamir.

3 S au người ấy có Giai-rơ, người Ga-la-át, dấy lên, làm quan xét Y-sơ-ra-ên trong hai mươi hai năm.

And after him arose Jair, a Gileadite, and judged Israel twenty and two years.

4 N gười có ba mươi con trai, cỡi ba mươi lừa con, và có ba mươi cái thành ở tại xứ Ga-la-át; ngày nay người ta cũng còn gọi nó là thôn Giai-rơ.

And he had thirty sons that rode on thirty ass colts, and they had thirty cities, which are called Havoth-jair unto this day, which are in the land of Gilead.

5 K hi Giai-rơ thác thì được chôn tại Kha-môn.

And Jair died, and was buried in Camon.

6 K ế ấy, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên lại làm điều ác trước mặt Đức Giê-hô-va, phục sự những Ba-anh và A

And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the Lord, and served Baalim, and Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria, and the gods of Zidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines, and forsook the Lord, and served not him.

7 C ơn thạnh nộ của Đức Giê-hô-va bèn nổi phừng cùng Y-sơ-ra-ên; Ngài phó chúng nó vào tay dân Phi-li-tin và vào tay người Am-môn.

And the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hands of the Philistines, and into the hands of the children of Ammon.

8 K ể từ năm đó, hai dân tộc nầy hà hiếp và chà nát dân Y-sơ-ra-ên: những người Y-sơ-ra-ên ở bên kia sông Giô-đanh trong xứ A-mô-rít, tại miền Ga-la-át, bị hà hiếp, chà nát trong mười tám năm.

And that year they vexed and oppressed the children of Israel: eighteen years, all the children of Israel that were on the other side Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.

9 D ân Am-môn cũng sang qua sông Giô-đanh, đánh Giu-đa, Bên-gia-min, và nhà E

Moreover the children of Ammon passed over Jordan to fight also against Judah, and against Benjamin, and against the house of Ephraim; so that Israel was sore distressed.

10 B ấy giờ dân Y-sơ-ra-ên kêu cầu Đức Giê-hô-va, mà rằng: Chúng tôi có phạm tội cùng Chúa, vì chúng tôi đã lìa bỏ Đức Chúa Trời chúng tôi, và hầu việc các thần Ba-anh.

And the children of Israel cried unto the Lord, saying, We have sinned against thee, both because we have forsaken our God, and also served Baalim.

11 N hưng Đức Chúa Trời đáp cùng dân Y-sơ-ra-ên rằng: Ta há chẳng có giải cứu các ngươi khỏi dân Ê-díp-tô, khỏi dân A-mô-rít, khỏi dân Am-môn, và khỏi dân Phi-li-tin sao?

And the Lord said unto the children of Israel, Did not I deliver you from the Egyptians, and from the Amorites, from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines?

12 L ại khi dân Si-đôn, dân A-ma-léc, và dân Ma-ôn hà hiếp các ngươi, thì các ngươi có kêu cầu cùng ta, và ta đã giải cứu các ngươi khỏi tay chúng nó.

The Zidonians also, and the Amalekites, and the Maonites, did oppress you; and ye cried to me, and I delivered you out of their hand.

13 N hưng các ngươi đã lìa bỏ ta, hầu việc các thần khác, bởi đó cho nên ta không giải cứu các ngươi nữa.

Yet ye have forsaken me, and served other gods: wherefore I will deliver you no more.

14 H ãy đi kêu cầu những thần mà các ngươi đã chọn; chúng nó khá giải cứu các ngươi trong cơn hoạn nạn!

Go and cry unto the gods which ye have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your tribulation.

15 D ân Y-sơ-ra-ên thưa cùng Đức Giê-hô-va rằng: Chúng tôi đã phạm tội! Xin Chúa hãy đãi chúng tôi theo điều Chúa cho là tốt lành, chỉ xin hãy giải cứu chúng tôi ngày nay!

And the children of Israel said unto the Lord, We have sinned: do thou unto us whatsoever seemeth good unto thee; deliver us only, we pray thee, this day.

16 H ọ bèn cất khỏi giữa mình các tà thần, rồi trở lại phục sự Đức Giê-hô-va; lòng Ngài buồn rầu về sự khốn khổ của Y-sơ-ra-ên.

And they put away the strange gods from among them, and served the Lord: and his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel.

17 D ân Am-môn nhóm lại, và đóng trại trong xứ Ga-la-át. Dân Y-sơ-ra-ên cũng nhóm lại, và đóng trại tại Mích-ba.

Then the children of Ammon were gathered together, and encamped in Gilead. And the children of Israel assembled themselves together, and encamped in Mizpeh.

18 D ân sự và các quan trưởng xứ Ga-la-át hỏi nhau rằng: Ai là người sẽ khởi đầu ra đánh dân Am-môn? Người đó sẽ làm quan trưởng hết thảy dân Ga-la-át.

And the people and princes of Gilead said one to another, What man is he that will begin to fight against the children of Ammon? he shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.
