T he place was called the brook Eshcol because of the cluster of grapes which the sons of Israel cut down from there.

وَدُعِيَ ذَلِكَ المُكانُ بِوادِي أشكُولَ بِسَبَبِ العُنقُودِ الَّذِي قَطَعَهُ بَنو إسْرائِيلَ مِنْ هُناكَ.
