I n Damascus the governor under Aretas the king kept the city of the Damascenes with a garrison, desirous to apprehend me:

فَعِندَما كُنتُ فِي دِمَشقَ، أمَرَ الوالِي الَّذِي يَعمَلُ تَحتَ سُلطَةِ المَلِكِ الحارِثِ بِحِراسَةِ المَدِينَةِ لِكَي يَقْبِضَ عَلَيَّ.
