I n Damascus the ethnarch of Aretas the king kept the city of the Damascenes shut up, wishing to take me;

فَعِندَما كُنتُ فِي دِمَشقَ، أمَرَ الوالِي الَّذِي يَعمَلُ تَحتَ سُلطَةِ المَلِكِ الحارِثِ بِحِراسَةِ المَدِينَةِ لِكَي يَقْبِضَ عَلَيَّ.
