G oliat s-a oprit şi a strigat trupelor lui Israel aşezate în linie de bătaie: „De ce aţi ieşit şi v-aţi aliniat pentru luptă? Oare nu sunt eu un filistean, iar voi slujitorii lui Saul? Alegeţi pentru voi un bărbat şi trimiteţi-l la mine.

And he stood and cried unto the armies of Israel and said unto them, Why are ye come out to set your battle in array? Am I not a Philistine, and ye slaves to Saul? Choose a man from among you, and let him come down to me.
