C ând iudeii care locuiau în Moab, în Amon, în Edom şi în toate celelalte ţări au auzit că împăratul Babilonului a lăsat o rămăşiţă în Iuda şi că l-a uns drept conducător pe Ghedalia, fiul lui Ahikam, fiul lui Şafan,

All the Jews in Moab and Ammon and Edom, and in all the other countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left some of the people in Judah. They heard that he had chosen Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, to rule over them.
