t hat a manslayer might flee there, who unintentionally slew his neighbor without having enmity toward him in time past; and by fleeing to one of these cities he might live:

para que pudiera huir allá quien, sin proponérselo y sin mediar antes enemistad con su prójimo, cometiera un homicidio, pues huyendo a una de estas ciudades el homicida podría salvar su vida.
