A nd David sweareth again, and saith, `Thy father hath certainly known that I have found grace in thine eyes, and he saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved; and yet, Jehovah liveth, and thy soul liveth, but -- as a step between me and death.'

Ma Davide replicò, giurando: «Tuo padre sa molto bene che io ho trovato grazia agli occhi tuoi; perciò avrà detto: “Gionatan non sappia questo, affinché non ne abbia dispiacere”; ma, com’è vero che il Signore vive e tu stesso vivi, tra me e la morte non c’è che un passo».
