a nd Jehovah is going before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them in the way, and by night in a pillar of fire, to give light to them, to go by day and by night;

Днем Господь шел впереди них в облачном столбе, указывая им путь, а ночью – в огненном столбе, чтобы давать им свет, поэтому так они могли передвигаться и днем, и ночью.
