E ntonces la madre del niño vivo, llena de compasión por su hijo, suplicó al rey: «¡Ay, Su Majestad! ¡No lo maten! ¡Que se quede esta mujer con el niño vivo!» Pero la otra dijo: «Ni para ti, ni para mí. ¡Que lo partan por la mitad!»

Then the woman, of whom the living child was, spoke unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.
