L evantando-o, lançaram mão de todos os meios para reforçar o navio com cordas; e temendo que ele encalhasse nos bancos de areia de Sirte, baixaram as velas e deixaram o navio à deriva.

and when they had hoisted it up, they used helps, under-girding the ship; and, fearing lest they should be cast upon the Syrtis, they lowered the gear, and so were driven.
