D aniel însă s-a hotărât să nu se întineze cu hrana împăratului şi nici cu vinul de la masa lui. De aceea l-a rugat pe căpetenia eunucilor să nu-l silească să se întineze.

But Daniel determined in his heart that he would not defile himself by the king’s rich and dainty food or by the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not to defile himself.
