E zra s-a retras dinaintea Casei lui Dumnezeu şi s-a dus în odaia lui Iehohanan, fiul lui Eliaşib. Când a intrat acolo, pâine nu a mâncat şi apă nu a băut, căci a continuat să bocească necredincioşia celor ce fuseseră în captivitate.

Then Ezra came from before the house of God and went into the lodging place of Jehohanan son of Eliashib. There he ate no bread and drank no water, for he mourned over the returned exiles’ faithlessness.
