U nd Esra stand auf vor dem Hause Gottes und ging in die Kammer Johanans, des Sohnes Eljasibs. Und da er dahin kam, aß er kein Brot und trank kein Wasser; denn er trug Leid um die Vergreifung derer, die gefangen gewesen waren.

Then Ezra came from before the house of God and went into the lodging place of Jehohanan son of Eliashib. There he ate no bread and drank no water, for he mourned over the returned exiles’ faithlessness.
