I o ho presentato il mio dorso a chi mi percuoteva, e le mie guance a chi mi strappava la barba; io non ho nascosto il mio vòlto agli insulti e agli sputi.

I gave my back to those who beat me, and my cheeks to those who plucked off the hair. I didn’t hide my face from shame and spitting.
