K o te tuatahi ia o nga mea katoa, e oku teina, kaua te rangi, kaua te whenua, kaua tetahi atu oati, e oatitia e koutou: engari me ae ta koutou ae, me kahore ta koutou kahore; kei taka koutou ki te whakawa.

But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath; but let your yes be yes, and your no be no, so that you may not sin and fall under condemnation.
