A llora Davide disse a tutti i suoi servi che erano con lui a Gerusalemme: «Levatevi e fuggiamo; altrimenti nessuno di noi scamperà dalle mani di Absalom. Affrettatevi a partire affinché non ci sorprenda improvvisamente e faccia cadere su di noi la rovina, e non colpisca la città passandola a fil di spada».

David said to all his servants who were with him at Jerusalem, “Get up and let us run. Or else none of us will be safe from Absalom. Hurry and go, or he will be quick to catch us and bring trouble upon us. He would destroy the city with the sword.”
