T hus Midian was broken before the sons of Israel so that they lifted up their heads no more. And the land rested forty years in the days of Gideon.

Assim foram abatidos os midianitas diante dos filhos de Israel, e nunca mais levantaram a cabeça. E a terra teve sossego, por quarenta anos nos dias de Gideão.
