A nd the king called the Gibeonites, and spoke to them. (Now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the remainder of the Amorites; and the children of Israel had sworn to them; and Saul sought to smite them in his zeal for the children of Israel and Judah.)

Vua bèn truyền gọi dân Ga-ba-ôn, và nói chuyện với họ. Người Ga-ba-ôn chẳng thuộc về dân sự Y-sơ-ra-ên, nhưng họ là kẻ sống sót của dân A-mô-rít; dân Y-sơ-ra-ên có thề hứa tha thứ họ. Dầu vậy, Sau-lơ vì lòng sốt sắng về dân Y-sơ-ra-ên và Giu-đa, đã tìm cách trừ diệt họ.
