T hen they came near, and spake before the king concerning the king's interdict: Hast thou not signed an interdict, that every man that shall make petition unto any god or man within thirty days, save unto thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.

Apoi s-au înfăţişat înaintea împăratului şi i-au amintit de interdicţia împărătească: – Oare nu ai semnat o interdicţie potrivit căreia, în următoarele treizeci de zile, oricine se roagă altui zeu sau altui om în afară de tine să fie aruncat în groapa cu lei? Împăratul a răspuns: – Lucrul acesta este adevărat, după legea mezilor şi a perşilor, care odată ce a fost dată, nu mai poate fi anulată.
