B ut David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should escape into the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will despair of seeking me any more within the borders of Israel, and I shall escape out of his hand.

Davide disse in cuor suo: «Un giorno o l’altro perirò per mano di Saul; non vi è nulla di meglio per me che rifugiarmi nel paese dei Filistei. Così Saul, perduta ogni speranza, smetterà di cercarmi per tutto il territorio d’Israele e io sfuggirò alle sue mani».
