W hen they came to Marah, they could not drink its waters for they were bitter; therefore it was named Marah.

وَحِينَ أتَوْا إلَى مَنْطِقَةِ مارَّةَ، لَمْ يَستَطِيعُوا أنْ يَشرَبُوا الماءَ الَّذِي كانَ فِيها لِأنَّهُ كانَ مُرّاً. لِذَلِكَ سُمِّيَتْ تِلْكَ المَنْطِقَةُ «مارَّة.»
