D avid went out to meet them and said to them, If you have come peaceably to me to help me, my heart shall be knit to you; but if you have come to betray me to my adversaries, although there is no violence or wrong in my hands, may the God of our fathers look upon and rebuke you.

Davide uscí loro incontro e, prendendo la parola, disse: «Se siete venuti da me con intenzioni pacifiche per aiutarmi, sono disposto a unirmi a voi, ma se è per tradirmi e consegnarmi ai miei avversari, benché io non abbia commesso alcuna violenza, il DIO dei nostri padri veda e punisca».
