O ra, os judeus, como era a preparação, e para que no sábado não ficassem os corpos na cruz, pois era grande aquele dia de sábado, rogaram a Pilatos que se lhes quebrassem as pernas, e fossem tirados dali.

The Jews therefore, that the bodies might not remain on the cross on the sabbath, for it was preparation, (for the day of that sabbath was a great,) demanded of Pilate that their legs might be broken and they taken away.
