A ssim sucedeu, porque os filhos de Israel tinham pecado contra o Senhor seu Deus que os fizera subir da terra do Egito, de debaixo da mãe de Faraó, rei do Egito, e porque haviam temido a outros deuses,

This was so because the Israelites had sinned against the Lord their God, Who had brought them out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and they had feared other gods
