a nd the haven being incommodious to winter in, the more part gave counsel to sail thence also, if by any means they might be able, having attained to Phenice, to winter, a haven of Crete, looking to the south-west and north-west,

Y como el puerto no era adecuado para invernar, la mayoría tomó la decisión de hacerse a la mar desde allí, por si les era posible arribar a Fenice, un puerto de Creta que mira hacia el nordeste y el sudeste, y pasar el invierno allí.
