A nd go forth doth fire from a rod of its boughs, Its fruit it hath devoured, And it hath no rod of strength -- a sceptre to rule, Lamentation it -- and it is for a lamentation!'

Le feu est sorti de ses branches, Et a dévoré son fruit; Elle n'a plus de rameau vigoureux Pour un sceptre de souverain. C'est là une complainte, et cela servira de complainte.
