D avid said to God, “Isn’t it I who commanded the people to be counted? It is even I who have sinned and done very wickedly; but these sheep, what have they done? Please let your hand, O Yahweh my God, be against me, and against my father’s house; but not against your people, that they should be plagued.”

Davidi i tha Perëndisë: "A nuk kam qenë unë, vallë, ai që urdhëroi regjistrimin e popullsisë? Kam qenë unë që kam mëkatuar dhe që kam bërë të keqen; por këta, kopeja, çfarë kanë bërë? Të lutem, o Zot, Perëndia im, drejtoje dorën tënde kundër meje dhe kundër shtëpisë së atit tim, por mos e godit popullin tënd me këtë fatkeqësi".
