B ut the people said, “You shall not go out; for if we flee away, they will not care for us; neither if half of us die, will they care for us. But you are worth ten thousand of us. Therefore now it is better that you are ready to help us out of the city.”

Ma il popolo rispose: «Tu non devi venire, perché se noi fossimo messi in fuga, non darebbero alcuna importanza a noi; anche se morisse la metà di noi non darebbero alcuna importanza a noi; ma tu conti come diecimila di noi; è meglio dunque che tu sia pronto a darci aiuto dalla città».
