V ua bèn truyền gọi dân Ga-ba-ôn, và nói chuyện với họ. Người Ga-ba-ôn chẳng thuộc về dân sự Y-sơ-ra-ên, nhưng họ là kẻ sống sót của dân A-mô-rít; dân Y-sơ-ra-ên có thề hứa tha thứ họ. Dầu vậy, Sau-lơ vì lòng sốt sắng về dân Y-sơ-ra-ên và Giu-đa, đã tìm cách trừ diệt họ.

And the king called the Gibeonites, and said unto them; (now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites; and the children of Israel had sworn unto them: and Saul sought to slay them in his zeal to the children of Israel and Judah.)
