A los ocho años de su reinado, siendo aún muchacho, comenzó a buscar al Dios de David su padre; y a los doce años comenzó a limpiar a Judá y a Jerusalén de los lugares altos, imágenes de Aserá, esculturas, e imágenes fundidas.

For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after and yearn for the God of David his father; and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem of the high places, the Asherim, and the carved and molten images.
