U n día, Saúl llamó a David y le dijo: «Voy a darte por esposa a Merab, mi hija mayor, con la condición de que seas mi hombre fuerte en las batallas del Señor.» Y es que Saúl pensaba: «Si él muere, no seré yo quien lo mate sino los filisteos.»

And Saul said to David, Behold, my elder daughter Merab, her will I give thee to wife: only be thou valiant for me, and fight Jehovah's battles. For Saul said, Let not my hand be upon him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him.
