E n aquellos tiempos, cuando Israel no tenía rey, hubo un levita forastero que vivía en la parte más lejana de los montes de Efraín. Este levita había tomado como concubina a una mujer de Belén de Judá,

And it came to pass in those days, when there was no king in Israel, that there was a certain Levite sojourning on the side of mount Ephraim, who took to him a concubine out of Beth-lehem-judah.
