l es pedían que dijeran «Shibolet». Y si el fugitivo decía «Sibolet», porque no podía pronunciar esa palabra correctamente, le echaban mano y lo degollaban junto a los vados del Jordán. Así murieron cuarenta y dos mil efraimitas.

Then they said to him, Say now Shibboleth! and he said, Sibboleth, and did not manage to pronounce rightly. Then they took him, and slaughtered him at the fords of the Jordan. And there fell at that time of Ephraim forty-two thousand.
