C uando Abner volvió, Joab lo llevó aparte, a un lado de la puerta, diciéndole que quería hablar con él en secreto. En realidad, quería vengar la muerte de su hermano Asael, así que le hundió una daga por la quinta costilla, y lo mató.

When Abner returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside into the center of the gate to speak with him alone. There Joab hit him in the stomach and killed him because of the blood of his brother Asahel.
