Q uando Pilatos percebeu que não estava obtendo nenhum resultado, mas, ao contrário, estava se iniciando um tumulto, mandou trazer água, lavou as mãos diante da multidão e disse: “Estou inocente do sangue deste homem; a responsabilidade é de vocês”.

And Pilate having seen that it profiteth nothing, but rather a tumult is made, having taken water, he did wash the hands before the multitude, saying, `I am innocent from the blood of this righteous one; ye -- ye shall see;'
