O judeu Mardoqueu foi o segundo na hierarquia, depois do rei Xerxes. Era homem importante entre os judeus e foi muito amado por eles, pois trabalhou para o bem do seu povo e promoveu o bem-estar de todos.

For Mordecai, the Jew, was next unto King Ahasuerus and great among the Jews and accepted of the multitude of his brethren, seeking the good of his people and speaking peace unto all his seed.
