Î n al treilea an al domniei sale, Ahaşveroş a dat un ospăţ în cinstea tuturor demnitarilor şi a slujitorilor săi. Comandanţii oştirii Persiei şi ai Mediei, nobilii şi conducătorii provinciilor se aflau cu toţii acolo, înaintea împăratului.
